Starring Denzel Washington, it is director Robert Zemeckis' first live-action film since Cast Away and What Lies Beneath, which were both released in 2000, and the first R-rated film directed by him since Used Cars back in 1980, as well as the first ImageMovers release to date to have an R-rating. Flight was nominated for two Academy Awards at the 85th Academy Awards: Best Actor (for Washington) and Best Original Screenplay (for John Gatins)
