Bol Bachchan is a 2012 Bollywood romantic action comedy film. The film, made on a massive budget of INR70 crore (US$11 million), is inspired by the popular 1979 film, Gol Maal. Bol Bachchan's official trailer was released on 24 May 2012 and the film was released on 6 July 2012 in around 2575 screens worldwide with 2700 prints. It received mixed critical acclaim but had a good opening at the box office. The film supposedly created a record for its advance bookings. Box Office India declared the film as a "hit". Bol Bachchan has become one of the highest-grossing Bollywood films of all time in India.
Abbas Ali (Abhishek Bachchan) lives in Chandni Chowk with his sister Sania (Asin Thottumkal). When they lose a case regarding their ancestral property which was taken from them by deception, their well wisher and family friend, Shastri (Asrani), advises and convinces them to move to his village Ranakpur where he assures Abbas that he will get him a job at his boss', Prithviraj Raghuvanshi's (Ajay Devgn), place. Pritvhiraj is a powerful but kind-hearted man who hates lies and liars, and punishes them very harshly. Abbas and Sania arrive at Ranakpur and meet up with Abbas' friend Ravi (Krishna Abhishek), Shastri's son, who runs a drama company with his friends. Abbas learns that there is a temple at the border of Ranakpur and Kherwada, the village where Prithviraj's cousin Vikrant Raghuvanshi (Jeetu Varma) is powerful. The two cousins are arch enemies. The temple, being at the border of two villages, was disputed and locked for years.
The plot begins when a child falls into the well of the temple and Abbas breaks the lock of the temple to save the child. When Prithviraj arrives at the scene, Ravi tells Abbas' name as Abhishek Bachchan to Pritvhiraj, to avoid religious controversies of a temple being broken-open by a Muslim. Initially Prithviraj hires Abhishek Bachchan (Abbas) and is happy with his work, but Ravi and his friends have to come up with a new plan when Prithviraj spots Abhishek (Abbas) celebrating Eid as a Muslim. Ravi convinces Prithviraj that the one who he saw celebrating Eid was actually Abbas, an effeminate man and classical Kathak dancer. Things become worse for Abbas and Ravi when Prithviraj, actually with a kind intention, hires Abbas for teaching Kathak to his sister Radhika (Prachi Desai). How Abbas manages his dual life, by using tricks like employing Zohra (Archana Puran Singh) to be his mother Madhumati, without letting Prithviraj know forms the crux of the story.
